What We Do
Honor Flight DFW is an all-volunteer-driven organization created for one purpose: to ensure that our nation’s veterans have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., and visit the memorials built in their honor. Today, more than 120 Honor Flight hubs operate across the country—each committed to preserving gratitude through action.
Founded in September 2008, Honor Flight DFW (HFDFW) brings this mission to the Dallas–Fort Worth and North Texas community. Since our first flight in 2009, HFDFW has carried more than 2,600 veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War to Washington, D.C., to reflect, remember, and be recognized.
The all-expenses-paid, overnight journey includes visits to the World War II, Korean War, Vietnam Veterans, Marine (Iwo Jima), Navy, and Air Force Memorials, along with Arlington National Cemetery. For many veterans, standing before these memorials—symbols of sacrifice, resilience, and national gratitude—is a deeply emotional and meaningful moment.
This is especially true for our Vietnam veterans. For a generation that returned home to a divided nation, the Honor Flight experience often becomes a long-overdue welcome. Their courage, endurance, and selfless service—once overlooked—are finally met with the dignity, gratitude, and respect they have always deserved. At the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, many find healing, connection, and a sense of recognition that has been delayed far too long.
Every veteran travels with a dedicated Guardian, responsible for their comfort and safety throughout the trip. In addition, a team of volunteer medical professionals accompanies each flight, ensuring every veteran receives attentive, compassionate care from departure to return.
